If you figure out the role of Microsoft's hiberfil.sys, then you understand why Hibernation sometimes is not an option. To enter BIOS you have to press specific key while the system is booting. click the Hibernate and wait for several secs to check if the LEDs go off. This is a bug Microsoft needs to fix — perhaps it will be fixed in Windows 8 What's Missing From Windows 8?

Open an elevated command prompt. in cmd(run as admin): powercfg -devicequery wake_armed 2. Also, make sure that you don't have any programs running that would not allow the computer to change to a low power state.
